IMPORTANT STRIKE ASSISTANCE INFORMATION
Strike can be a stressful period for members and their families. We understand the mental, physical, and emotional toll a strike can have. EAP representatives will be available 24/7 for our membership.
Strike leaders will work with ANY member on ANY issues that arise during a strike.

STRIKE ASSISTANCE PAY/BENEFITS
Weekly strike assistance: $500/week ($100/day Mon-Fri)*
Eligible members will receive Strike Assistance for each day they did not receive payment from their employer due to a strike at the prorated daily amount.
Strike assistance pay is available after the 8th day of the strike. The UAW has implemented a direct deposit system to expedite payments as much as possible. Please bring all relevant information during sign-up.
Information regarding sign-up for strike benefits will be communicated via personal emails, the website, and via strike captains.
*Bonus checks are issued the week prior to Thanksgiving & Christmas Holidays
STRIKE ASSISTANCE - MEDICAL
The UAW Strike and Defense Fund covers medical benefits such as: Group Life Insurance • Transition Bridge Benefit • Medical Assistance -Doctor, Hospital, Prescription, COBRA (deductibles do not resest- i.e. if you met your deductible it will carry over).
Benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, and sick & accident are not covered by strike assistance.
Cobra will send letters by mail 15 days after a strike is called. Keep this letter. Bring this letter and other documentation for your covered dependents with you when you sign up for benefits (marriage certificates, birth certificates, social security numbers, etc.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Eligibility
Members must be in good standing and on active payroll in order to receive Strike Assistance the day before a strike starts.
All dues and initiation fees must be up-to-date to be considered in good standing.
Members receiving workers compensation, Illness or Accident Benefits, or who are laid off are not eligible to receive Strike Assistance.
Any member who is delinquent and does not pay the full amount of dues in arrears and reinstatement fee at least one (1) year prior to a strike, shall be penalized two (2) weeks' strike benefits.
Any member who is or becomes delinquent in their dues and later acquires good standing membership by fully paying the amount in arrears and reinstatement fee at least one (1) year prior to a strike, shall not be penalized for their delinquency.
Members must participate in the strike and complete their duty with proper evidence (punches strike card) to receive their Strike Assistance and their benefits.
Members who receive gross pay from outside work that is equal to or greater than $500 will not receive weekly Strike Assistance pay benefits but will continue to receive medical and prescription drug coverage.
IF A MEMBER CROSSES A PICKET LINE and/or DOES FULFILL THEIR STRIKE DUTY, ALL BENEFITS WILL CEASE IMMEDIATELY AND APPROPRIATE ACTION MAY BE TAKEN UNDER ARTICLE 31 OF THE CONSTITUTION.
Garnishments
Garnishments are not immediately taken out of Strike Assistance payments (401k loans, child support, etc.) It is the member’s responsibility to plan accordingly to avoid penalties.
Other
Strike pay will NOT have taxes automatically withheld. IRS form 1099-MISC will be issued by the UAW after earnings over $600. Plan accordingly for year-end taxes.
Members are NOT responsible for Union Dues during a strike.
Strike Assistance checks will be null & void after 90 days. If your check is damaged or lost and you are unable to deposit it, please contact the UAW Strike and Assistance Department.
