Report from the UAW-GM Council Meetings

August 27, 2025 - San Antonio, TX

My Union Siblings,

At this week’s UAW GM Council Meetings, I had the privilege of bringing forward the bylaw amendments that we have been working so hard to prepare. Many of you have been part of the conversations, the brainstorming, and the organizing that went into this effort, and I want to thank everyone for the energy and solidarity you’ve shown.

We went into these meetings determined to secure a stronger voice for our represented salary members at the bargaining table. While our original plan was to amend the existing bylaws, it became clear—after lengthy discussion and thoughtful problem-solving—that the most effective and constitutionally sound path forward would be a different one.

I am proud to report that we have secured a commitment from the International President’s Office to work with us to create an entirely new and separate UAW-GM Salary Council. This Council will give us a dedicated forum to address our unique issues and to help administer our own contract—rather than being folded into the framework of the Hourly agreement. Most importantly, it guarantees that salary members will now have a direct seat at the negotiating table, ensuring our voices are heard where it matters most.

Importantly, this new Salary Council will meet in parallel with the National Hourly Council to preserve and strengthen solidarity across our membership. But unlike before, we will no longer have to lobby or compete for attention in a space dominated by the larger assembly plants. Our issues will be centered, our voices will be heard, and our concerns will drive our own agenda.

This is nothing short of a historic win for our Local and for all salary members across the UAW. The work we have put in together has opened the door to true representation at the highest level, and I couldn’t be more excited for what this means moving forward.

In Solidarity,

Riley Jarvis

President, UAW Local 1869
